The Honda Civic Type R with K20Ci Turbo engine achieves 320 HP with 2.0 with boost pressure exceeding 150 KPA. The engine intake temperature rises to nearly 90 degrees Celsius, showing the stock intercooler cooling capacity is insufficient.
The HKS intercooler uses a larger size intercooler core to maintain cooling performance. The newly designed 100 mm wide core allows approximately 200% more surface area when compared to stock.
The stock intercooler piping layout has a sharp bend, stopping the intake air flowing smoothly and causes boost pressure drop. The HKS intercooler integrates the inlet tank of the intercooler and pipe to allow smoother air flow and reduced air intake losses.

The 13001-AH004 Intercooler kit includes 13002-AH001 piping kit. Replacing the stock rubber intercooler inlet and outlet hoses with aluminum piping eliminates pipe expansion that can be associated with the stock factory piping, allowing greater boost levels to be run and improving throttle response. The factory rubber hoses are replaced with aluminum pipes and silicone hoses and secured with reinforced hose bands.
