Product Description
What is an engine management system? Why buy one? How does an engine management system different from a Piggy Back Programmer? This fully programmable Plug and Play product opens the door to virtually limitless performance modification and tuning of your vehicle. Programmable systems allow you to extract all the performance from your engine by delivering precisely the required amount of fuel and ignition timing that your engine requires for maximum output under all operating conditions.
An engine management system is essentially the brain of your vehicle. Aftermarket engine management systems replace your OEM computer (ECU) with a performance version that gives you tunability so that you can maximize the power of your vehicle and optimize the other aftermarket components you have added to your ride. While your stock ECU may be fine for daily driving, it is programmed with a large margin for safety built-in, which in turn sacrifices performance. An engine management system will let you push the limits a little more, while still staying in a safe tuning range, to drastically improve performance throughout the entire power band. Engine management systems are also easily uninstalled if you ever decide to sell your ride or just want a milder tune.
The main difference between an engine management system and a piggy back programmer is that the engine management system completely replaces the ECU, while a piggy back tunes through the stock ECU. This usually means that piggy back setups have limited tuning capabilities due to limited access to the stock ECU from encryption and other security features. Piggy backs ECU usually maintain the stock safety features of the OEM ECU which means there is less risk of destroying your motor. With engine management systems, you gain complete control of all tuning parameters, making them the superior device if you want to really dial in your vehicle. However, it is important to find a competent tuner and utilize a chassis dyno in order to carefully tune your vehicle and prevent premature engine failure.
